Frequently asked questions for a headstone

How much are the headstones?

Headstone costs depend upon sizes and colors. In order to give you the best information, we ask that you contact us for a quote.

How thick are the headstones?

The flat stones are 4” thick. Uprights are 6”-10” thick.

What do we clean the granite with?

Granite should be cleaned with Muriatic acid. Dilute 50%/50% water and acid, keep the stone really wet and keep off concrete. The acid will eat the concrete. Contact Walker Monument today for a free headstone cleaning quote.

Why are some gravestones shiny while others are not?

Shininess depends on the design you choose. Due to the choice of stone and finish, some designs call for a frosted panel, the lighter part. Thus, not all headstones will be shiny.

How well do the designs hold up with the mowers?

We set the stones low enough in the ground so that the mowers go over the top. The upright monuments have a rough base which will protect the monument. Rest assured we have years of experience in setting headstones and we take all factors into account when planning a setting.

How much concrete is on the stone?

It depends on the cemetery regulations, please contact the cemetery for a list of their regulations.

Are PVC holes in the concrete a good idea?

The holes can weaken the concrete if they are placed in the corners.

Are all the headstones granite?

Yes, the monument companies use granite for its durability. There are other options available, please contact us for quote.

How wide can the stone be to fit on a single, double and double deep grave?

Single max including concrete is 40”

Double max including concrete is 80”

Double deep including concrete is 40”

These sizes are standard, some cemeteries are different. Please contact the cemetery to get the exact specifications.

Does the headstone need concrete?

Most cemeteries do require concrete. However, it is best to contact the cemetery for a list of their ordinances.

How well do the porcelain pictures do on a flat stone?

There is a hole cut out of the stone to recess the porcelain in. In order to get the best information, we request that you contact us about durability, warranties, etc.
